| Once more, we ask the responsible
authorities of the European Community to interpose that the future member Romania
respects the legislation as well as human, ethic and moral values. It is unbearable
for cultivated nations to tolerate the mass murdering of animals. A similar
letter has been addressed to Mister Adrian NASTASE, Prime Minister of the Republic
Romania.

His Excellency Ion ILIESCU
President of the Republic of Romania
Mister President,
We like to present you another
417 signatures in favour of the homeless dogs in
your country. Only from our organization, you have received (altogether)
3'774 signatures imploring you to save the lives of
our four legged friends in taking the necessary steps as to put new life into
the castration-/vaccination-/health-programme. We continue fighting
for this solely human, intelligent and lasting solution to meet the dogs' overpopulation.
You have not only gotten millions of protests from all over the world against
the barbaric massacres committed on the master less dogs, you have gotten various
offers/proposals for active help as well, encouraging you to revive the castration
project and the general veterinarian care.
We are very disappointed at the fact, that we
never have received an answer, not even a confirmation about the arrived petitions,
what would be at least a gesture of politeness.
Why does Romania execute the canocide
- although Romania has signed
the European Convention for Animals
- although the Romanian Chamber
of Deputies have enacted the degree for the Protection of Stay Animals in
September 1998
- although the Romanian Government
has issued the Emergency Order N° 155 for Homeless Dogs in November 2002?
Concerning the Emergency Order, it has not even
passed the Parliament yet! Please allow the comment that the Order is promoting,
but it does just exist on the paper. Who will watch over its application
and who will control it?
Actually, the communities prefer killing the
dogs brutally while capturing them - may be for lack of money or/and of facilities
– but mostly for lack of good will. No wonder that they do so, following the
bad example of Romanian's capital Bucharest!
We implore you once more to do your utmost to
stop the canocide, which is degrading for your reputation worldwide and which
destroys all the sympathies cherished for your beautiful country and its people.
Waiting for your prompt action and reply, we remain
Yours very respectfully Uta Seier-Maltz
